Family Recipes are Family Treasures

All of us have family recipes that we treasure. Last year a niece and a nephew each married into large families. I compiled recipes from both families for wedding presents. What an amazing process! The results are wonderful collections with the recipes, descriptions of them, photos and stories. The result are in 8 1/2 x 11" protector sheets in a sturdy notebook that has plenty of room to grow.

So where do these recipes come from? How do they get added to a family's tradition? I have my Grandmother's early edition of the Fannie Farmer Cookbook. On the inside cover is a scribbled recipe with the note "from Jo." This has been copied and shared by my family for years. Some are on neat recipe cards from acquaintances barely remembered. My mother had a box of recipes clipped from newspapers across the country. Friends share recipes from favorite meals and restaurants give out recipes for special dishes.

Today many of us find new recipes online. I always have a few family recipes for auction on OverstockAuctions.com for a low price. These include my Mother's Scottish Shortbread, a spectacular Horseraddish Mousse for Holiday meals, two great ice-box cookie recipes and potluck favorites such as White Chili, and Spam Casserole. One is a rich dessert named after a neighbor. Take a look at these recipes. If you aren't an Overstock member, check out the great offer below
